Once the Care Lab App is installed on the participant’s smartphone and you have generated the Participant's login credentials, you can proceed with logging the participant into the Care Lab App.
Make sure that the correct app is installed on the participant’s phone:
Academic & Basic Research
Care Lab App
If the incorrect app is installed (Empatica Care and not Empatica Care Lab), you will receive a Login failed error: 'Care does not recognize the QR code you have scanned. Please try again or get in touch with your provider if the issue persists.'
The Care Lab App is intended for use by the study participant and the login credentials used are the Participant credentials for the app.
The Care Lab Portal login credentials, on the other hand, are not to be used for the Care Lab App but are intended for use by the qualified research or healthcare professional accessing the online Care Lab Portal. Feel free to check our step-by-step guide on the setup and use of the Empatica Health Monitoring Platform.
The two options for the participant to log into the Care Lab App are outlined below:
The participant login credentials include a QR code that can be easily scanned with the companion smartphone’s camera.
- Make sure the smartphone has an active internet connection
- Open the Care Lab App and tap ‘Login with QR code'
- Grant Camera access to the Care Lab App
- Scan the QR code using the smartphone’s camera
Only participants in Waiting, Monitoring, or Paused status can log into the Care Lab App.
Participants in Early Term or Full Term status are locked and can no longer log into the Care Lab App.
The Participant login credentials include a Participant Identifier and Password that can be used to log into the Care Lab App
- Make sure the smartphone has an active internet connection
-
Open the Care Lab App and tap ‘Login with credentials'
- Enter the Participant Identifier and Password in their respective fields
- Tap ‘Login with credentials’
Only participants in Waiting, Monitoring, or Paused status can log into the Care Lab App.

Once the participant is logged into the Care Lab App, follow the in-app instructions to pair the Empatica Wearable. Make sure to keep the device right next to the smartphone.
If there are multiple Empatica Wearables available onsite, you may have to choose from a list of devices during the pairing. Verify the Empatica Wearable serial number by checking the bottom of the device pod.
After the successful pairing, read the onboarding guide to make sure that the Empatica Wearable is worn correctly.
