Trouble Pairing EmbraceMini

Issues with pairing may happen when the Care Lab App is unable to find EmbraceMini during the first pairing attempt, or the pairing process cannot be completed.

Put EmbraceMini in pairing mode

EmbraceMini can only be paired while the front LED is quickly blinking blue. If it's not:

  1. Press and hold the front button on EmbraceMini for 5 seconds; the front LED will slowly blink blue.
  2. Briefly press the front button to initiate pairing; the front LED will quickly blink blue. Then, start pairing from the Care Lab App.

Requirements for a successful pairing

To ensure a successful pairing, make sure that the following requirements are met:

  • The companion device is compatible and is running the minimal software required (Android version 13 or higher as released by Google, or iOS 18 or higher, with Bluetooth 5.0).
  • EmbraceMini is charged and powered ON. To ensure this, put EmbraceMini on the cable charger during the pairing process.
  • Check that Bluetooth is enabled and EmbraceMini is within Bluetooth range (10 meters/30 feet) without obstacles such as walls, heavy furniture, etc.
  • Android Location services are enabled. (Location services are mandatory by the Operating System to enable Bluetooth scanning. The Care Lab App will not access, share, or store any location information for any of its features.)
  • Check our smartphone configuration tips to disable battery optimization and allow the Care Lab App to run in the background.
  • EmbraceMini is not currently paired with any other smartphone. If EmbraceMini has been previously paired to another companion device, forget (unpair) EmbraceMini from the Bluetooth settings of the old companion device (iOS devices, Android devices).
  • The companion device is connected to the internet.
  • Make sure to pair EmbraceMini from the Care Lab App and not from the Bluetooth settings of the companion device.

If pairing still fails

If the pairing cannot be completed even after the above have been verified, try the following steps:

EmbraceMini in the cable charger The EmbraceMini front LED glowing white while charging

  1. Place EmbraceMini on the cable charger. You should see the front LED glowing white.
  2. Force close the Care Lab App and open it again after ~5 seconds.
  3. Retry the pairing process.
  4. Forget (unpair) EmbraceMini from the Bluetooth settings of the companion device (iOS devices, Android devices).
  5. Retry the pairing process.
  6. Android Clear the Bluetooth cache. Check the smartphone's user manual to verify the procedure.
  7. Reset Network Settings.
  8. Retry the pairing process.

The phone settings reset will delete all the saved WiFi networks and previously paired Bluetooth devices. The WiFi networks need to be rejoined and any other Bluetooth device to be paired again.

For pairing requirements that apply to both Empatica wearables, see Care Lab App pairing issues.
